Northern Moor (M23) is our home patch — it’s where The Dog Walkers is based, and we know every path along this stretch of the River Mersey. It’s a quieter, greener corner of South Manchester than the big-name parks, which makes it brilliant for dogs. Here are our favourite Northern Moor dog walks.
The River Mersey & Kenworthy Woods
The Mersey runs right along the edge of Northern Moor, and the path through Kenworthy Woods is a local favourite — mature woodland and riverside trail with far fewer crowds than Chorlton or Sale Water Park. Lovely dappled shade in summer and proper leafy walking year-round.
The Mersey valley meadows
Follow the river and the open meadows of the Mersey valley give you flat, easy walking with big open space — ideal for a steady stretch of the legs. It links along the river towards Sale Water Park one way and Northenden the other, so you can make the walk as long as you like.
Wythenshawe Park on the doorstep

A few local tips
- The riverside paths get muddy and can flood after heavy rain — our “Clean Dog Promise” towel-dry was made for it.
- Recall matters close to the river; keep developing dogs on a long line.
- Early mornings along Kenworthy Woods are beautifully quiet for nervous dogs.
