Trafford is spoilt for dog walks — from the lake and meadows of Sale Water Park to handsome Victorian parks and miles of canal. Here are the spots we come back to again and again across the borough.
The short answer
Across Trafford our favourites are Sale Water Park (lake & Mersey trails), Longford Park in Stretford, Worthington Park in Sale, Walton Park, and the Bridgewater Canal towpath that links much of it together.
Sale Water Park
The big one: a 152-acre country park with a lake, open meadows and shady riverside paths. Brilliant for energetic dogs and a staple of our adventure days.
Longford Park, Stretford
One of Trafford’s largest parks — mature trees, wide lawns and quiet corners. A great all-rounder for a sociable group walk.
Worthington Park & Walton Park, Sale
Two well-kept Sale parks with easy paths and plenty of grass — reliable, close-to-home walks for a quick leg-stretch or a calmer outing.
The Bridgewater Canal
Flat and seemingly endless, the canal towpath threads through Sale, Timperley and beyond — ideal for steady, low-impact walks whatever your dog’s age.
